Performances take place in two distinct venues --
each offering excellent acoustics and sightlines.
The larger space, Colden Auditorium, has a seating
capacity of 2,124, which includes a 1,814-seat
orchestra and a 310-seat mezzanine, slightly raised
from the orchestra level. The wood-floor stage is
of open concert design with a permanent acoustic
shell that can be transformed into a proscenium-type
theatre by hanging standard black legs and partially
closing the main curtain. The large apron of the
stage lowers via hydraulic pit elevator to become
an orchestra pit accommodating up to 60 musicians.
Colden Auditorium is equipped with 3-phase, 200-amp
company switches that will accommodate additional
lighting and sound. The backstage area consists
of two star and two chorus dressing rooms. Public
rest rooms, concession stand, information desk,
box office, and administrative offices are located
in the lobby.
The 489-seat Samuel J. and
Ethel LeFrak Concert Hall, providing advanced
soundproofing technology and fine acoustic qualities,
was designed by Peter George Associates, designers
of Merkin Hall in Manhattan. Arguably the finest
concert hall in the metropolitan area, LeFrak features
a superb tracker-action organ, designed by Bedient
Associates of Lincoln, Nebraska, expressly for this
facility; 24 banner boxes, which can be lowered
to accommodate variable acoustics; computer-controlled
theatrical lighting; and professional-quality audio
and video equipment, used not only for recording
Aaron Copland School of Music programs, but for
Decca, DGG and other professional label recording
sessions as well.
Both Colden Auditorium and LeFrak Concert Hall
are wheelchair accessible and have facilities for
the hearing impaired. To make arrangements, please
